Draupadi

I was mind boggled by these two lines from Amitabh Bacchan in his 2019 movie – Badla

  1. Badla lena har baar sahi nahi hota, lekin maaf kar dena bhi har baar sahi nahi hota .

( Revenge is not the right thing but forgiving all the the time is not a right thing either)

2. Mahabharat- Draupadi ke badle ki kahani hai

( Mahabharat is the revenge story of Draupadi)

I always overlooked that detail but he is right

You see Mahabharat is a great epic and most people watched it during last year’s lockdown

The beauty is, you keep learning something new, everytime you watch it

Couple of years ago, Star plus channel had recreated the epic again

The actor who played Arjun said he was traumatised for 15 days after they shot Draupadi cheerharan

Imagine if a man can be traumatised seeing the enactment of molesting of a woman, what trauma happens on the victim

Krishna wanted Draupadi to stand up for herself and have a leadership example set for the people

If a woman who is the empress of “Akhand Bharat” and has 5 most powerful husbands can be victim to such a crime, what would be the plight of the ordinary ladies in their kingdom

In my opinion, Kauravas, the cousin of Pandavas (Draupadi’s husband) always envied them

And wanted the throne for themselves

When Kauravas couldn’t win over them with their petty tricks

They chose Draupadi as the soft pick because she intimidated their shallow ego by here mere presence and giggling once

Now couple of things I see:

  1. There is no point of such extreme goodness, that others walk all over you and later you have to fight wars

2. The one’s who sit and watch are equally responsible for the wrong doings of the bad guys

3. No point in celebrating a special day for women or men

As much as the men I know hate men’s day, I find Women’s day a sham too

4. We should empower each other irrespective of gender, every day and not just on some particular days

5. Women, my lovely ladies

If you don’t support each other, no one else is going to support you

YOU yes you are setting wrong examples by not being there for your akin

Later you can’t complain that men don’t support women; that’s a hogwash

Somehow everytime I see anyone being troubled physically, mentally, emotionally at any place by anyone, the first thing that comes to my brain is “Draupadi”

But if you see it rightly, she was stronger in the entire epic compared to anyone and never suffered in silence

Till date, in our culture, in the list of females having most pristine character, you find Draupadi’s name on the list
