OMG
There is so so so much to learn from this Hollywood movie, that released in June 2022.

And by the way, It’s not just a movie.
It is a real life story of Jerry and Marge

These days in the news, we either see about lay-offs or the other one is ageism. This movie, for me at least, kills both those birds with a single stone.

Ageism: How being old is not landing jobs for people with 50+ years of age.
What most don’t understand is, age is inevitable and we all are growing to grow OLD.

Lay-off: Another big thing that most don’t understand or learn better is
How to grow a business and community, that works for all and not just the founders getting rich.

This movie is a masterclass in that !!!!!!!!

That is one of my favourite lines in my life too .. Jerry :) same pinch !!!!

Chapter 1 : Retirement

At the start of the movie, Jerry is indirectly criticised/ mocked for working so hard because he is about to retire.

Though Jerry doesn’t want to retire and has proved to be a great Employee, his bosses tell him to enjoy his “Golden Years”.

Chapter 2: Know your USP

Jerry and every one in his life knows how amazing Jerry is with numbers.
Jerry mostly applies that USP at work and though Math is a default mechanism for him, he has to keep it a low profile in his personal life.

But, Is there ever a bifurcation of personal and work life?

Chapter 3: Finding something to keep us busy :P

Jerry spent 42 years of his waking life working at one place and did not know anything else in his life…

This was so relatable to me, because in just 10 years I was married to my work and did not know anything except for my family and office.

However, it is very important to have your own individuality and identity

Finally, Jerry stumbles onto something fun for himself by solving a math problem and finding a flaw in a lottery game.
He even tests, if his theory is right or not

(the Tester in me, absolutely loved it :) )

Chapter 4: Strive for greater good

Though Jerry found an anomaly in a game, he didn’t exploit it for malicious reasons.

Thanks to his wife Marge and Of course Math, he realised he needed a greater pool of people to bet with him, to win with some probability
and it worked ..

There they were supporting different families in their small town achieving their dreams and meeting their requirements.

It was absolutely amazing to see his business grow and flourish
and how every stakeholder was so proud of Jerry and Marge :)

Chapter 5: Men will be Men ;)

Now like every story going great so far, there has to be some villainy aspect introduced by now.

A kid at Harvard, also finds out this flaw in the very same lottery game, that Jerry and his now business invests in.

However, not everyone has same intentions.
( eg: Hacking :P )

Now, the kid thinks really very highly of himself and wants to make a business out of the flaw, but only for himself that too by using his investors and friends.

This is what I mean by Men will be Men!!!!

It doesn’t matter what degree you hold, what age you are
It all boils down to something simple : your Character !!!!!!!!

Do you in the name of providing to the world, are just exploiting
the world,
your stakeholders,
your investors,
your company?

Then sooner or later, you are bound to fail, head first and the rocket will explode when it falls like that.

This is why I earlier mentioned, that this movie is a masterclass on
“how to grow your company”

Where you either think for everyone and stick to doing the right things

Or just act as a kid with a magic wand in his hand who is selfishly wanting all the riches for himself;

It all ultimately defines who you truly are !!!!!!

Parting thoughts

Needless, to say, I absolutely loved this movie and even cried a little.

Walter White (Breaking Bad ) plays Jerry in this movie and he always always knows how to make money :P :)

While one part of me was feeling Jerry kept exploiting the flaw,
the other dominant side knew he wasn’t doing anything wrong.

He actually helped not just his town but also the company owning the lottery game, make a lot of money out of a dead game.

So, there is literary no age barrier on when you understand where your true passion lies and how you create a TRUE legacy out of it !!!!!!!
