Mary Kom .. one of my role model

“Kabhi kisi ko itna bhi mat darao, ki darr hi khatam ho jaaye”

– Don’t scare someone so much, that the fear is gone

My father showed me the Rocky movie series when I was a kid and by Rocky 3, I asked my dad to get me a red punching bag with matching gloves and I had also decided in which part of my room that would go

This lead to silently banning of the movie in my house and well, punching became a dream

(Analogy: exactly like how some managers sideline something great for you because you are a girl ..!!)

So when I first heard the above dialogue on fear from a trailer of the movie Mary Kom, I had to watch it.

I accept I didn’t know who she was

And that’s a problem, we don’t know many great people this land has seen

Mary Kom is one my favourite role model

She fought with her family, with society, with mean fellow peers for her dream

Sometimes not just our families, but women are the biggest villain for a fellow woman

The scene where Mary Kom shaves off her head because her peers hid/ destroy her passport and she’s unable to travel for the tournament; literally shook me

We see all the wins and accolades of a successful person

But we should also celebrate all the heaps of struggle they overcame, fought and didn’t give up to become that successful person

Mary Kom, you inspire me 🙏🏻
